How to start your journey as a freelance writer

So you wanna start freelance writing but you have no experience and you’ve already done some research and looked into it,

probably seeing people recommend things like upwork or fiverr content mills that wanna pay you 1 penny per word.

Those sites are just the worst,

I mean more often than not,

you barely get paid anything and you don’t get any real experience working with clients or doing work that will help you improve your portfolio and

building for work also means a race to the bottom so you’re competing on price and not on value and that really sucks for you.

And you might be thinking “well doesn’t everybody start somewhere, doesn’t everyone start out on a platform or using contact mills”

well everybody does starts somewhere but that somewhere doesn’t have to be a sh**ty bidding site where you end up getting paid less than minimum wage for your work,

so today we are going to break down the exact steps that you can take to start a freelance writing business on your own terms without using content mills and bidding sites.

But before I drop the steps to take on conquering freelance writing,

let us first understand what freelance writing is:

What Is Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is writing words online and getting paid. Seriously, That’s it.

You are basically a pen for hire, well not really a pen but you know what I mean.

All you have to do is type stuff up on your laptop and submit stuff to clients on time and you are a freelance writer.

Now of course there’s a lot more to it than that which I’m gonna cover here in just a minute but freelance writing is one of the greatest ways to get started making money online.

There’s a big stigma out there that it’s really tough to make money online or that YOU have to have

all this experience and you have to have all these tech skills but to be honest with you that’s just not the case.

The truth is if you have a knowledge and have basic writing skills then you can make money as a freelance writer so how do you actually get started as a freelance writer?

well that’s a great thing,

there is content needs in every niche whether you want to write about theater or film or Golf or football whatever it is there is absolutely a niche that you can write in and make money.

That’s the cool thing about freelance writing is that everyone has a specific set of skills that people will pay you for.

Now there’s a lot of different writing out there,

you can be a copy writer for emails, you can be a content writer,

you can write resumes you can do all kinds of different niches.

But the thing I really recommend if you have no experience as a writer and really want to just get your foot in the door and actually start making money online then

I highly recommend becoming a content writer because you don’t have to have a ton of persuasive skills that you do for email copywriting and working on sales pages and letters and things like that,

with content writing you’re basically just writing either a how to guide or doing a review for a camera,

golf club or a book or whatever you’re writing about and it’s a lot easier to format and pay isn’t quite as good if you’re doing like sales pages and copy but if you don’t have any experience it’s a phenomenal place to start.

Now we can go over to the steps you can take to become a really good freelance writer:

Step 1

Pick A Freelance Writing Niche

Picking a freelance writing niche is one of the most important things you will do to grow your freelance writing and when i say your niche,

a niche is just a fancy word for your area of specialty as a writer.

This is so so important because it’s what helps you stand out to potential clients,

I mean especially if you’re new then you probably don’t have a lot going for you but your niche can really help you establish your expertise and help you compete with writers who actually have more professional experience than you do.

High paying client is going to be looking for a writer who specializes in the exact type of content they need for example a technology company is going to want to work with

the technology writer and not just a general freelance writer who may or may not be able to help them with the kind of content they need so make sure you pick a niche and

get ready to market the life out of your expertise in that niche and please do not skip this step because it is the most important things you will do to grow your business.

Step 2

Freelance Writing Website

Set up a freelance writing website for yourself, when you create the site, you want to have a professional domain so you need to get good hosting company to host your site,

you need to make sure you go to a website builder and you really want this site to look good because it’s what’s going to make a first impression on any potential clients who finds you online that want to work with you.

Now look, I’ve heard and seen a lot of freelance writers say things like “wait a second,

I have to pay for hosting and pay to get a website built? I’m not gonna pay for anything until I’m already started making money freelance writing” that is a bounce backward as it gets,

I’m not telling you to just go drop $5000 on a web developer and designer to set up a site for you,

you don’t have to do that, at least invest in hosting and get a custom domain and spend some time putting together a site that really makes you look your best because being a good writer is not enough to win you work it’s really not,

there are a lot of good writers out there,

what will win you work is your online presence,

potential clients are going to judge you based on how your website looks so don’t bullsh*t yourself into thinking that Upwork profile is enough or that some 1990s looking website you built back in the days is enough because it’s not so.

Step 3

Relevant Writing Samples

So once you’ve got your good looking website all set up and good to go then it’s time to start beefing up your portfolio but you shouldn’t just throw a ton of different samples in there,

the thing you need to think about is writing relevant samples the keyword there is relevant.

So you have to think about your feelings writing niche, think about your target client based on that niche and be strategic,

write samples that are specifically made to attract that type of target client,

READ ALSO: 10 High School Dropouts That Became Billionaires

so if your niche is writing blog post for technology companies you’re not going to create a bunch of samples about lawn care or pet grooming because those kind of things wouldn’t position your technology expertise and expertise in the technology industry would be what your clients are looking for.

What you would do if you specialize in Technology blog post is actually go write some technology blog post as your writing samples,

you don’t even have to win clients to do this you can use medium or even start your own blog page on your freelance writing website and publish these blog posts there,

something else I strongly suggest doing too is publishing some guest blog posts on popular blogs in your niche,

that’s super important you want to pitch publications in your niche,

everything should kind of work together to really position your niche expertise online because that’s how you attract a very specific chart clientele and get them to want to hire you.

Step 4

Start Pitching Your Service

I’m talking about cold emailing, gather the email addresses of clients in your freelance writing niche and start sending out personalize tailored cold emails were you tell each clients how you can help them in every cold email.

You also want to do things like build your credibility if possible,

make a genuine connection with the reader and definitely include a call to action at the end.

It’s super important anytime you write a cold email it has to be personalized and it has to be tailored to the reader,

they should know without a doubt that this email is for them only that you’ve taken the time to research them and research their business website and that this isn’t just some super annoying copied and paste of pitch that you sent out to 1000 people because nobody likes to get those and I’ll be honest with you here,

this strategy can take a lot of work and can take some time and you know what?

you’re going to get rejected a whole lot but you really just can’t let that stop you and you can’t take it personally because if you get rejected or a client doesn’t respond to your email,

you just keep going and move on to the next client and just keep trying until you get a yes because a lot of the time getting rejected doesn’t have anything to do with who you are or your writing quality

maybe the client just doesn’t need writing help right now because they already have someone in house who handles that or maybe they just don’t understand the value of Content marketing

So you just move on to the next one and keep going.

Now with this strategy I recommend sending 20 to 25 cold emails per day if you really wanna grow a freelance writing business quickly.

READ ALSO: 8 Richest Kids Of Dubai

So cold emailing should be a huge part of your marketing strategy.

Step 5

Sound Confident Even If You Aren’t

Now I saved my number one point for last because it is the most important,

if you don’t think that you can be an asset to a client then they won’t believe you can either.

Even if you are just starting out, you have life experience to offer and you can draw upon that mentally to feel more confident and mind you,

never mention to your prospective client that you have no experience or that you just want to be given a chance or anything similar that have that lack of confidence around it.

Sound confident and direct even if you don’t feel it.

You don’t need confident to start a freelance writing career,

you just need courage and to be able to sound like you’re confident.

Believe me, the confidence comes as you act like you want to be.

#EndSARS Protests: I Have No Dime, No Kobo Investment In The Tollgate – Tinubu

Former governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu says he has no dime in the funds generated at the Lekki Tollgate.

Tinubu follows claims and reports that his interest and involvement in the shooting that took place on Tuesday is based on the fact that he was making money of the tollgate, a source of income that was crippled following days of the #EndSARS protest.

In a telephone interview with Channels Television, the All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart said, ““I have no dime, no kobo investment in the tollgate”.

He also denied having any investment in the Lekki Concession Company, the firm which manages the tollgate.

Tinubu further denied being the one who gave the orders for the shooting of protesters at the Lekki Tollgate saying “I will never, never be part of any carnage. I will never be part of that.”

Tinubu questioned the logic behind the use of live arms on protesters who were unarmed.

The APC chieftain said he was accused and reported to the presidency that he was behind the protests.

He said their are still claims that it was him who sponsor of the protesters.

According to Tinubu, it was his intervention that that spurred Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to respond to the demands of the protesters.

“That was why he (Sanwo-Olu) set up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The governor has gone to the home of one of the victims to appeal to them.

“He has put N200m together as part of restitution and compensation for those attacked.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Tinubu cautioned protesters against giving the impression that they wanted to cause anarchy.

He warned that “any government will necessarily have to act with the requisite decisiveness and force to restore law and order” if it is convinced that chaos is the purpose of any protest organized.

‘History Will Remember You’: Ighalo Slams Govt Over Lekki #EndSARS Protest Shooting

Published

Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo has slammed Nigerian authorities over the shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

He condemned the shooting by the security operatives which led to the death and injury of several protesters on Tuesday evening at the Lekki toll gate.

“I am sad and heartbroken; I don’t know where to start from,” the Manchester United striker said in a Twitter video after the English Premier League side won their Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

He added, “Today, October 20, 2020, you people will be remembered in history as the first government that sent the military to the city to start killing their own citizens.”

Ighalo, who says he is not the type that gets involved in politics, believes it will be a disservice for him to keep quiet on the shooting.

He took a swipe at the government for the incident, stressing that the people were tired of them and could not condone such a reckless act any longer.

The 31-year-old said, “I can’t keep quiet anymore on what is going on back home in Nigeria. I will say Nigerian government, you guys are a shame to the world for killing your own citizens; sending the military to the streets to kill unarmed protesters, it is uncalled for.

“I am ashamed of this government, we are tired of you guys, and we can’t take this anymore.”

He, therefore, called on the United Nations and the United Kingdom among others to intervene in the crisis in Nigeria.

Ighalo also urged them to help the poor Nigerians and caution the local authorities against “killing their own citizens”.

He appealed to the youths to, as much as they could, stay safe and steer clear of activities that could lead to a recurrence of the ugly incident.

How To Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500 index

Today’s post will be about the techniques i use to trade Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500, they are safe cos i’ve used them myself.

Boom 500 and Crash 500 are synthetic indices aspect of forex trading, these are markets that ticks base on simulation from stocks, often times there are single future assets like Boom 500 which might be simulated by over 100 company’s stocks, this is known as constituent so it’s quite challenging to study how to trick the market, no 100% perfect strategy. How To Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500 index How To Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500 index

This makes it harder for brokers to game the traders as the market is volatile enough on its own.

Personally I trade synthetic indices than currency pairs, am not too good with fundamental analysis so I find it easier doing technical analysis and place my trade for profits. (Technical analysis(TA) is only needed in Synthetic indices so it gives me an edge to win always).

Strategies for Trading Boom and Crash

Forex trading is quite challenging for all newbies, the first issue you will run into is where to learn a good strategy to make good money from trading.

How To Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500 index How To Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500 index

This problem might lead you to join some signal groups on facebook or telegram that will help you blow your account by giving you bad signals. How To Trade Boom 500 and Crash 500 index

One thing people fail to understand is that, no one will give you free sure signal, if the provider is pretty sure about the signal, he/she would use it for their personal trade, they literally gain nothing from giving you free signals that will help you make huge money, they lose nothing too but then they acquire the knowledge at a cost so at some points they will want to earn from it. So there is risk attached to every signal out there, the best of traders don’t give signals, they don’t have that time. So I will advise you stay away from signal groups. Boom 500 and Crash 500 index Boom 500 and Crash 500 index

The second mistake people make is portfolio management, don’t entrust your money to someone who claims to be Pro at forex trading to help you manage, it doesn’t work that way.

The said Pro might face some bad market and help you lose your money as he/she is trading under high pressure.

Some account managers are just scammers that will do away with you money.
